Reading and Heggerty
Wonders Reading Series
We use the reading series called Wonders. Each week, there will be a phonics (letter/sound), high- frequency sight word, vocabulary words, listening comprehension(read aloud), and writing category. We will also integrate the Heggerty phonemic awareness curriculum into our daily reading routine.
We will navigate through the Wonders program by Units. Each unit takes approximately 3 weeks to complete. I will inform you weekly on our Hybrid/Remote learning page of what Sight word, vocabulary words, and Phonics letter we are on for the week. I will include the read aloud if possible, on this page.

Phonemic Awareness refers to the ability to identify and manipulate individual sounds in words. It includes letter sounds, rhyming, syllables and other skills. Having strong phonemic awareness skills is a predictor of future success in reading. We use the "Heggerty" program to practice these skill daily.
Daily videos will be posted for your child to use on remote learning days. (You will not have to lead the lessons - your child will just need to complete the activities while watching the teacher in the video.)
