Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross is the first book in a fantasy series where two young journalists compete for the columnist spot at the Oath Gazette and unexpectedly find their lives magically intertwined. In the midst of a war among the gods, Iris Winnow just wants to hold her family together and she knows winning the columnist position is her best bet. Her mother is suffering from addiction and her brother is missing on the front lines. In an attempt to soothe herself, she writes letters to her brother and slips them beneath her wardrobe door where they’re magically transported to Roman Kitt, her rival at the paper. He anonymously writes back and the two forge a connection that follows Iris all the way to the front lines as a war correspondent.
Rebecca Ross has crushed the hearts of many with her latest series Letters of Enchantment. The series currently has two installments, Dvine Rivals and Ruthless Vows. Ross has a captivating writing style that truly transports you into her world. As I was reading this book I was shocked to find myself struggling to differentiate my emotions from the ones of her characters. If you’re looking for a story to truly captivate you and grip you until the end, this is the book for you! It has an interesting world that almost feels like historical fiction, so it’s very easy to get into and isn’t too complicated. However, be cautious because this book will leave you needing to consume any and all of Ross’ writing.
