The popularity of chicken sandwiches has been increasing ever since 2019 with the release of Popeye's chicken sandwich. This chicken sandwich caused companies to make new chicken sandwiches and improve their recipes in order to keep up with popular demand. Chicken sandwiches continue to dominate the fast food industry and show no signs of slowing down as companies continue to release new versions of their chicken sandwich. We went to six different places: Chick-Fil-A, Popeye’s, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wawa and tried their chicken sandwiches and ranked them based on appearance, taste, and craveability. Here are the results.
Burger King’s sandwich, sadly, fails all three categories. The sandwich looked like it was thrown together lazily and the lettuce was dry and wilted. It looked like it was run over by a car and it was flat and atrocious looking. Unfortunately, the taste did not make up for the appearance. The sandwich was horrifically salty and instantly turned our mouths into a desert. Not only that, but the chicken itself was dry and flavorless. The only positive is the bread that the sandwich came on, which was surprisingly good.
The McDonald's chicken sandwich is mediocre and not something we would ever crave. It is a typical sandwich, absolutely nothing special about it. The bun was oddly flat and the sandwich was discombobulated and just thrown together. The sandwich seemed to be lacking sauce and the ingredients didn't seem to be spread out enough. Its taste was mediocre but it was a little on the dry side. We would not go out of my way to get this sandwich.
Wawa’s chicken sandwich is a great choice if you're not feeling like driving to Chick-fil-A or Popeyes. It is by far the most convenient to get to, and since people are usually at Wawa on a regular basis to get gas, it makes it even more convenient. In comparison to other chicken sandwiches, the bun is not as good or visually appealing, however, the chicken and condiments on the sandwich taste fresh. There’s nothing special about the chicken itself and the breading is not as flavorful or crispy but still could satisfy a craving for a chicken sandwich. Overall, the sandwich from Wawa would not be my first choice, but we would get it again if we were craving a tasty chicken sandwich, especially since it has added convenience!
Wendy’s chicken sandwich is a nice choice for a meal. It has a great sauce on it as well as lettuce and tomatoes. The sandwich looks appealing and isn’t messy, but nothing extraordinary. The sandwich is very flavorful, has a good, fluffy bun as well as flavors that contrast one another. The pairing of the bun, chicken, and the sauce, rank it above the past three. One minor complaint is that it tends to be on the lighter side. If you are looking to get completely filled off of this meal, you may want to pair it with a delicious 6 piece nugget side.
Before trying Popeyes chicken sandwich we didn’t understand all the commotion between comparing the sandwiches from Chick-fil-A. After tasting the sandwich for the first time we understand why there is such a big debate. We thought that the breading on the chicken sandwich was more flavorful than Chick-fil-A’s breading. The bun was buttery and fluffy which is different from Chick-fil-A, but not bad. The pickles and sauces are nearly indistinguishable making the sandwiches that much more similar. Additionally, Popeyes gave a larger piece of chicken in comparison to Chick-fil-A. Appearance-wise, the sandwich was quite large making it more messy than other chicken sandwiches but overall the bun looked shiny and the chicken looked crispy making it appealing to the eye. These similarities make Popeyes a close second however, they are just not as craveable compared to Chick-fil-A and the service does not compare.
Chick-Fil-A’s sandwich proves to be superior in almost every way. It is visually gorgeous with the delicious fluffy bun and the crispy chicken. The sandwich is also very versatile and you can eat it with sauce or without and it would still be amazing. It also has two slices of juicy pickles on top which makes the sandwich so craveable. The chicken itself is very juicy and well seasoned. The Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich is the perfect portion size and it leaves you wanting to come back for more. Chick-fil-A proves to earn its reign as the best chicken sandwich due to its overall triumph across all categories.
Though the decision was tough, Chick-fil-A is the number one chicken sandwich pick. Popeyes was a close second making the decision hard. But the appearance and craveability was just on another level for Chick-fil-A. It really does come down to personal preference for people and it is definitely worth giving a try to find what you like best. As for the other sandwiches they aren’t nearly as comparable to Popeyes and Chick-fil-A. Our final ranking is…
6th Place - Burger King
5th Place - McDonald’s
4th Place - Wawa
3rd Pace - Wendy’s
2nd Place - Popeye’s
1st Place - Chick-Fil-A
