The Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team is having an excellent season under the direction of head coach Bob Ziegler. The team has a record of 5-2, with a 3-0 record in all CVC play. If they continue their inspired play, a Patriot Division title is within their reach.
Troy Callahan is the team leader in goals and points, with 26 goals and 31 points. Owen McAdams is having a strong season as well, with 10 goals and a team leading 16 assists, for 26 points overall. Senior Colin Phillips is second on the team in goals with 20, and sophomore Zach Meseroll rounds out the top four in scoring with 10 goals and 14 assists.
The biggest win of the season came against West Windsor Plainsboro North. The Spartans knew going in it would be hard because they were missing a few key players. After taking an early 3-0 lead, the game was back and forth, until North took a 9-8 lead with five minutes to go. However, the team scraped and fought their way back, scoring three goals in the final minute and a half to come away with an 11-9 victory. The effort was led by Owen McAdams 3 goals and 2 assists, and Joey Marazzo was strong in net coming up with 17 saves. The win was significant because it was the first time they beat WWN in the program’s history, and it was only the second time they have beaten a non-Patriot Division team in the CVC.
Their most recent victory came against Ewing, whom they manhandled 17 to 5. Once again it was McAdams leading the way with 4 goals and an assist, while Meseroll had one goal and four assists. Colin Phillips netted three, while Troy Callahan, Joe Carabelli and Anthony Vocaturo each scored a pair of goals.
McAdams gave his thoughts on the season: “There's a really good feeling around the team right now. We came into this year not knowing what to expect because we lost so many seniors that played big roles last year but a lot of younger guys have stepped up and filled those spots immediately. We know we have a team that can make some noise in the CVC this year as well as make a state run. I think the thing we're most looking forward to is playing Lawrence again this year. It's always a good game and one we all look forward to at the start of the year. It's a little more special this year too because it's at home. “
