Baseball season is one that is highly anticipated here at Steinert High School. It is one of our most respectable programs, training not just highly skilled athletes but fine young men. Although the season has only just begun, the team has already made a great first impression within their talents and good graces.
For their opening day, the Spartans took action at their very own Rich Giallella Field. They went up against Notre Dame, keeping the game alive and the crowd on their toes until the bottom of the seventh inning, with the Spartans earning a win. It is extremely invigorating to watch a team that has all its players rooting and working together to the best of their ability. Whether an outcome is good or bad, they handle things as a team.
The boys recently raised over $1000 for autism, becoming the top fundraising team for this year's Autism Classic Baseball Tournament recently in North Brunswick. Brian Giallella, the head coach of Steinert Baseball, values more within the sport than just the game. "I am pleasantly surprised at how we have been playing up to this point in the season, but I know that we will have to continue to improve if we want to be successful in the Mercer County and state tournaments. This is a close knit team and one that plays and practices hard. These qualities are important for this team's success moving forward.", Giallella says. The rest of the season is highly anticipated with a current record of 13-4. There is only more to come from these boys and it’s extremely exciting to see this team in action.
