It’s safe to say that this year’s SHS wrestling season exceeded many expectations. The team worked really hard, developed a strong chemistry, and the results showed on the mat. Three Wrestlers performed well-enough at districts to move on to regionals, and two of them are underclassmen.
Sophomore Elliot Morris, who wrestled at the 174 lb. weight class, finished the season with a 13-11 record, and that’s after starting off the year losing his first three matches. However, he finished strong, placing third in districts and fourth in regionals.
Junior Dream Hemingway finished the season with a record of 18-4 in the 190 lb. weight class. He had ten pins, and finished third in districts, qualifying him for regionals.
Senior Captain Louis Balardo had the most successful season of the team at 214 lb. weight class. He had a record of 21-2, with 14 pins. He placed second in the District Tournament which qualified him for Regionals as well.
It was a very successful year for the Spartans of the mat, with an 11-8 overall record, going 4-2 in the CVC, which was placed them in third place in the Colonial Division. The varsity squad consisted of seven seniors, two juniors, eleven sophomores and four freshmen. They are loaded with talent, and building on the success of this season, they should be another force in the CVC next season.
