The Hamilton Hockey team, a collection of players from Steinert, Nottingham, and West, has been off to a great start this season. With a record of 5-4-2, the team seems to have improved tremendously since last season.
Assistant coach, James Nobillo, noticed they seemed to be a “more complete team compared to last season.” Despite the loss of graduated players, plenty of freshmen filled their spots and facilitated the year of growth that the team is having. The program has several goals regarding the rest of the season, including the hope to beat out the competition in their division and qualifying for the state tournament. The Hamilton Hockey team will be competing in MCT’s.
The practice schedule for the team varies based on the availability of the spaces that they practice in. Currently, they practice at both the Mercer County skating rink and in the Steinert gym. Practices off the ice are typically held at 8:30 P.M. in the Steinert gym where the team typically practices conditioning drills. When the team is able to practice on the ice in Mercer County Park, they practice a variety of activities to better how they perform in games.
They can be seen doing system and positioning work, breakouts and regroups, and flow drills. In addition, the team has small area games while on the ice to properly apply the drills they have gone over. The practices at the skating rink at Mercer County Park are scheduled by the CVC athletic director who manages the ice hockey teams.
The Hamilton Hockey team has had an amazing season so far and will hopefully continue conquering the other teams in order to win their division. With the help of the student section, the boys are fueled with motivation and drive. The ice hockey season is not over yet, so come to a game to help support the team through the rest of their games.
