The Patient is a very dark mini series that came out late August of this year on Hulu starring Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson. When I first began this show there was no denying I was instantly hooked. The Patient wasted no time in getting straight into the plot as the show begins with the main character Dr. Alan Strauss, played by Steve Carell, waking up in an unfamiliar room with his ankle chained to the bed. Just by this short scene alone I could tell this show was going to be intense.

The overarching plot of The Patient starts with Dr. Strauss getting kidnapped by one of his patients, Sam Fortner played by Domhnall Gleeson. The reason Sam holds his psychiatrist captive is because he believes that his house is the place he is the most honest with both himself and others, therefore they should continue 24/7 appointments in his house. Dr. Strauss instantly shuts this idea down but doesn't argue back when he quickly learns about Sam’s homicidal urges. In an attempt to save himself and others, Dr. Strauss tries talking Sam out of doing something he’ll regret while simultaneously trying to escape the basement.

I give this show a very high rating and will most definitely have a rewatch of it in the future. It’s really good at keeping people on the edge of their seats and right when you think you predicted what is going to happen it throws a curveball at you. I highly recommend this show if you are a person who tends to enjoy thrillers with darker themes.
