Our JV and Varsity Girls Soccer teams here at Steinert have had a tremendous season. Both teams have been putting in the work since early August, and it shows. The Varsity team ended their regular season with an undefeated record of 13-0, the first undefeated season since 2006 and our JV team ended their season with a solid 6-3-3 record.
The 8 senior captains of the varsity team, Aleesia Amato, Savina Carabelli, Jillian Jones, Carley Krajcsovics, Adriana Ryder, Juliana Ryder, Olivia Simone and Arielle Warringer, have led the team throughout the season with outstanding acts of leadership. With their help, the team won many hard fought games, including their 1-0 win over Allentown and 4-3 Senior Night win over Notre Dame. The team is striving to continue their winning streak during the State Tournament which started October 26th. They won their first game against Neptune on Thursday October 27th with an impressive score of 5-0. Following this big win, Coach Hastings was feeling optimistic for the following games. “It’s a good building block, you want to build off of each game and hopefully the confidence of winning 5-0 the first round, we can build off of that.” They continued this winning streak against Jackson Liberty with a 3-1 victory on goals from Adriana Ryder, Juliana Ryder and Reilly Klein. However, the season came to an abrupt end a few days later in a heartbreaking loss against Brick Memorial, 2-1. Adriana Ryder scored the lone goal, giving her a CVC leading 23 goals on the season, giving her a career total of 40.
Not only was this season important for the players, but for Coach Hastings as well. After the Lady Spartans' big win over Allentown, the 1-0 nail biter game in which captain Adriana Ryder scored an unstoppable goal with 15 minutes to spare, Coach Hastings achieved an impressive 100 wins over his soccer coaching career. This was a huge milestone for Coach Hastings and the team.
The JV and Varsity teams have not only been active on the field, but also in the community. The soccer program has participated in community service opportunities and run fundraisers that have helped benefit the team and local organizations. The girls have been buddies for Miracle League, donated to the YWCA of Princeton for their Breast Cancer Resource Center and ran a car wash in which the donations benefited the team's booster club. With countless other off the field activities, it's needless to say this team is a tight knit group of players with impressive accomplishments this season.
