The Steinert Girls Varsity Field Hockey team has been putting in effort on and off the field. While the season had a slow start, Steinert’s shutout against Nottingham seemed to be the fuel for the flame. These girls have been hard at work, practicing fundamentals including: stick skills, transitions, and getting to goal. They have improved tremendously since their first game which can be attributed to the way they practice. Where they learn how to correct certain aspects of their play that led to the previous game’s outcome. The program’s coaches Mrs. LaMontagne (Varsity), Ms. Dice (Junior Varsity), and Mrs.Caruso (Freshman) have been leading the girls in categories including sports skills, sportsmanship, and also their personal lives. This has created a great bond between players and coaches.
Beyond practices and games, the girls still find ways to spend time with each other. There have been countless pasta parties, fundraisers, community service opportunities, and other events that they have enjoyed together. Early within the season, on 9/10/22, Steinert’s JV and Varsity Field Hockey team volunteered for Miracle League, where they created an enjoyable game of baseball, and an altogether fun day for all who participated. More recently, there was a fundraiser on 9/22/22, at Red Robin, where 15% of their proceeds went to the team. Those events are just a few examples of what this Spartan team is up to off the field..
This season, goal scorers have been Gracyn Nutt and Ceara O’Neal. Assists have been tallied by O’Neal, Amber Dewitt, and Adriana Truelove. Another group that deserves recognition is the girl’s strong defense, featuring Sadie Pattik, Caitlin McCarthy, Ashley Wisser, Ali Longo, Katelyn Haubert and Diana Arias, which acts as a foundation for the team. Gamewise, Steinert has gone against teams like Princeton and Robbinsville. While they did not get the outcome desired, these games have taught the team lessons on ways to up their game and play on the next level.
There are still plenty of games left in the season. One game to watch vs. cross-town rival, Hamilton High West on October 12th. It's a home game, and will be Senior Day. Gametime is 4:00. Come out and support Steinert’s Varsity Field Hockey by showing up loud and proud to cheer the girls on!
