Middle Trimester 1 Special
6th graders are working on improving their academic readiness by learning ways to prepare for different tests, organization, and goal setting. Students will continue to improve and develop these skills during their time in middle school to help propel them in their next academic adventure. I look forward to meeting with 8th grade next trimester!
SAEBRS
All children in grades K-8th will be completing mySAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) this month. This self-reflection is part of the FASTbridge assessment suite which we have used in math and literacy for many years with great success. We know that school is about more than just academic success. To be successful in school and beyond, students also need the ability to display appropriate behaviors and skills (e.g. interpersonal skills, study skills, self-regulation, and self-awareness). Information from mySAEBRS assists us with identifying any additional supports we can provide for students either individually, in small groups, or for our building as a whole. The assessment focuses on academic, socio-emotional, and behavior skills, and is not a mental health screener. We appreciate your support as we work to support the growth of your whole child, academically, socio-emotionally and in their faith.

Scholastic Book Fair Fun!
Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success! Our sales reached $8,442.
That is a double WIN, as it supports our students' reading and benefits our school which receives 50% of the sales.
Thank you to all for helping make this Fair a super one! Thank you parents, grandparents and students for shopping at the Fair. As always, there were many examples of generosity as well as super practice with math skills as the students shopped during the school day.
A special thank you to the HT bands and Mr. Andrews for relocating to the gym for two weeks, the 5th grade students for stapling fliers and hanging posters, to the MS students that unloaded the carts of book boxes for set up and helping the younger students create their Wish list, to the teachers and staff that helped with Wish lists, and to Ms. Brott , Ms. Morrison, Ms. Van Vors, and Janelle Kitt for their help with the cash registers. What Teamwork!
We will have another Book Fair during February Conferences Week as well as a BOGO Fair in May.

PE dress policy MS students (6-8)
8th graders:
All 8th grade students are still required to dress out for PE and will be graded accordingly. Students will receive half credit for the day if they do not change clothes and have proper attire for PE.
Proper attire includes a t-shirt or sweatshirt that they did not wear to school and shorts, sweatpants, or athletic pants that they did not wear to school.
-Students will still be required to have athletic shoes for PE. Sandals, Crocs, flip-flops, boots are all unacceptable. Shoes must be gym appropriate
6th and 7th grade students:
-Students will still be required to have athletic shoes for PE. Sandals, Crocs, flip-flops, boots are all unacceptable. Shoes must be gym appropriate
-Changing clothes will be optional for the student. While we encourage students to change, the space and time needed for this to be mandatory is not appropriate due to the class sizes. It is recommended that students have short/sweats and a t-shirt/sweatshirt for class, however changing will not be mandatory for 6th and 7th grade students going forward.
-Students are required to be in the gym by the passing period bell. If a student elects to change, they need to do so in a timely manner within the transition time.
As always, policy is meant to be fluid and appropriate. We will continue to re-evaluate as the year goes on and may re-institute a mandatory policy later in the year if logistics change.
8th grade students are required to dress out everyday for PE under the handbook guidelines.
Students who do not dress out for day will receive no more than half credit for the day.

Transitional Kindergarten
We learned that objects can move by push and pull. Now we are running experiments to learn what types of things can be a force. This week, we learned that some items are magnetic and can magnets can be used to apply force to them.
Kindergarten
We are learning about force and motion. This week students tested if a small push or a big push would cause the truck to go the furthest. They also recorded their data as they ran their tests.
1st Grade
We are becoming computer programmers! Step one learning about algorithms and the importance of debugging. The students were writing algorithms for "Flurb" to follow in order to reach the piece of fruit.
2nd Grade
They examined digital footprint left behind by fictional characters online and determined if it was private or personal information.
3rd Grade
We are working on knowing all the keys on the keyboard.
We also learned about why it is important to have strong passwords. Students practiced creating their own strong password that used a mix of letters, numbers, and characters.
4th Grade
In STEM class, our 4th graders have been learning what it means to be Super Digital Citizens. We discussed how to use technology responsibly and how to be upstanders when we see cyberbullying or online unkindness. We also learned the difference between private and personal information.
Family Resources:
5th Grade
5th graders are learning about the internet and networks. They participated in a notecard game where their hands represented the routers and the notecards were packets of data that had to get from the sender to the receiver while avoiding deadlock.
8th Grade
Our 8th graders are dusting off their coding skills! This week they coded their Micro: Bits to create night lights, animations, and one class even created a step counter.
