RED RIBBON WEEK 2020

Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.

Every October, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week in Hillsborough. Red Ribbon Week is our time to commit to living a drug free and healthy life.

Red Ribbon Week was established to honor Enrique (“Kiki”) Camarena, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Agent who was kidnapped and brutally murdered while investigating an illegal drug gang in Mexico. A year after the agent’s death, angry citizens in Kiki’s hometown in California responded by wearing red ribbons, showing their support for the war against illegal drugs. We use the red ribbon as a symbol of our intolerance towards the abuse of drugs and the abuse of alcohol.
