Hillsborough High School is home to a Thespian Troupe under the NJ Thespians state chapter of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), which sponsors the International Thespian Society (ITS). It is our mission to promote, strengthen, and advocate for theatre arts education in New Jersey’s schools. Thespians is an honors society that's main goal is shaping lives through theatre education. Completed one hundred hours (two full shows) of excellent theatre work with HHS Theatre.
Attend and participate in 70% of all Troupe activities
After Becoming Eligible
After you become eligible you will be contacted by the current thespian board to give you the opportunity to join
Once you fill out the forms and pay dues you will be a provisional member and start attending our monthly meetings
At the end of the school year we hold our annual induction ceremony where we will officially welcome you as a troupe member!

During the school year, you will attend once a month meetings where you will keep up with your troupe and stay active
The board members and the rest of the troupe plan multiple activities through the year. Some examples of what we do are
TOTS-Eat food drive
Performance nights
Morales (such as movie night and game nights)
Fundraisers (such as dine outs and selling crafts)
Community service efforts (such as volunteering around town like at the middle school or municipal building)
The big Thespian event of the year is the annual NJ Thespian Festival! The troupe spends a weekend together, hanging out with all the other NJ Thespian troupes and get the chance to:
Compete in acting and crew categories
Acting and crew professional workshops
Food and merch shopping
Showing off our troupe and main programs hard work
Hanging out with other NJ theatre kids
Lifetime membership for every inductee, connecting them to Thespians on an international scale as well as within the chapter
Access to regional and national events for Thespians
The opportunity to receive awards, grants, and scholarships through the Educational Theatre Association, and to seek higher leadership as a Troupe or State/International Officer
Having community service and a honor society to put on resumes
While inactive thespians are not removed from the organization, they are not privilege to the following benefits and distinctions:
Accumulating points
Earning star levels
Being recognized for their academic and theatrical work and successes
Attend thespian-exclusive troupe functions
Eligible for field trips, serving state or international office, and/or competitions
Be recognized as a thespian in the yearbook, website, college and/or scholarship applications, honors cords, etc.
Cannot serve on a Thespian Troupe committee
Cannot vote in Thespian Troupe business
Cannot be nominated for or hold office for the HHS Troupe
Have the ability to represent the Troupe and/or honors society in any capacity
You have not completed the required two yearly production requirements through the end of strike, or will no longer have the ability to meet this requirement
Are not actively and/or consistently participating in troupe activities
Have accumulated two or more unexcused absences from the Thespian Troupe monthly meetings
Failed to serve as an active, participating, and contributing member of a committee
Did not pay annual troupe dues or submit annual paperwork
Honors Thespian - Upon earning 6 stars
National Honors Thespian - Upon earning 12 stars
International Honors Thespian - Upon earning 18 stars
