Shaivite - Tamil - Hindu Priest Full-Time Position
Tradition: Shaivite (Candidates from Smartha or Vaishnava traditions with Shaivite expertise may also apply)
Languages Preferred: Tamil (Must), Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi
Position Overview
The Hindu Temple of Central Indiana (HTCI) is seeking a dedicated, qualified, and service‑oriented full-time Hindu Priest to support the spiritual needs of our diverse and growing community. The ideal candidate will be well‑versed in Agama Shastras, proficient in daily and special rituals, and committed to upholding the sanctity and traditions of Sanatana Dharma.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Daily Temple Rituals
Perform Nithya Pujas, Archanas, Abhishekam, and Aarti for one or more of the Temple’s 17 deities.
Conduct morning, afternoon, and evening worship services as per temple schedule.
Maintain the sanctity, cleanliness, and organization of the altar (mandap) at all times.
Special Pujas & Ceremonies
Perform special pujas including:
Satyanarayana Puja, Gowri-Ganesha Puja, Navdurga Puja/Navratri Puja, Mata-ki-Chowki, Moolamantras, Navagraha Shanti, and others.
Conduct various Havan/Homam rituals such as:
Ganesh Havan, Sudarshana Havan, Navagraha Havan, Rudra Havan, Chandi Havan, Mrityunjaya Havan, Panchayat Yagna, Shanti Havan.
Lead chanting and parayanams including:
Vishnu Sahasranama, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Rudram, Hanuman Chalisa, Sunderkand, Akhand Ramayan, etc.
Perform Devatha Kalyanams (Shiva-Parvati, Venkateshwara, Sita-Rama, Rukmini-Krishna).
Devotee Services
Conduct ceremonies upon request, including:
Gruhapravesam, Weddings, Namakarana, Upanayana, Srimantham, Funeral rites, Shraddham, and all Apara Samskaras.
Attend off-site religious services as scheduled by HTCI.
Temple Operations & Ritual Integrity
Ensure ritual items (samagri) remain pure and properly maintained.
Dispose of Prasad, flowers, and sacred materials respectfully per Hindu customs.
Ensure safety protocols: extinguish diyas, turn off lights, and secure temple premises at closing.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Required
Strong knowledge of Vedic rituals and Agama Shastra (Smartha, Vaishnava, or Shaivaite).
Fully qualified to perform Shodasha Karmas.
Ability to conduct Shraddha and cremation ceremonies.
Valid certification from a recognized Hindu religious institution or university.
Proficiency in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi (any combination acceptable).
Friendly, welcoming demeanor with strong devotion and professionalism.
Ability to collaborate with staff, committees, and volunteers.
Working knowledge of English with good communication skills.
Basic computer literacy.
Preferred
Experience in Alankaram for Moola and Utsava Murthys.
Ability to lead bhajans, group spiritual activities, and explain meanings of slokas to devotees.
Terms of Employment
US Green Card or US Citizens preferred.
Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience; includes healthcare package.
Full commitment to HTCI is required during employment.
No external paid or unpaid religious engagements permitted without prior approval.
Any potential conflict of interest must be reported to the Management immediately.
