Hello AP Students!
As indicated in the HHS Program of Studies, the prerequisite for AP CSA is successful completion of Computer Programming I and Computer Programming II. The Computer Programming I and Computer Programming II courses coincide with CMU CS Academy CS1, where our Computer Programming I covers Unit 1-Unit 6 and our Computer Programming II covers Unit 7 - Unit 12. ****
Students are able to access their CMU CS Academy (https://academy.cs.cmu.edu/login) accounts via the student-generated account information (username and password) set up during the start of the course. If you need help accessing your account, please email me directly (cangilla@ht-sd.org).
Periodically, the CMU CS Academy site has summer updates pushed out to fix bugs and make adjustments. I will let you know if I receive information on their update timelines, and please let me know if you are unable to access the site.
AP CSA moves at a quick pace, and there is A LOT of information covered. The programming foundation established in Computer Programming I and Computer Programming II will help greatly with this transition. Currently, AP CSA is taught in the JAVA programming language, which may take a little time getting used to (syntax-wise and general comfortability) for some of you; however, the content (eg. conditionals, control statements, lists, etc.) will be familiar. Don’t fret!! We will REVIEW and LEARN using sample code snippets, lecture notes, error analysis, and much, much more!
While there is not an overwhelming amount of nightly homework, you will be expected to keep up with the assigned programs/exercises that you are unable to complete in class! Please review the following course information (BELOW) that shows the content breakdown and recommended timeline. We will follow this closely.
Have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to working more with all of you!!
If you have any questions about the class, please feel free to email: cangilla@ht-sd.org
Take care,
Mr. Cangilla
****Unless I have spoken directly to you and through your guidance counselor regarding an alternate prerequisite to AP CSA, then you should be completing CPI and CPII.
