The Kentucky Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is offered to all students at Holy Spirit. Robotics is offered for students in grades 4-8 while STLP is open for students in K-8.
Students have the ability to compete in teams with a variety of robots. VEX IQ, LEGO, and Spehro.
In LEGO (EV3, NXT, and SPIKE) students have the option to compete in SUMO, RCX, or a handful of other challenges. These students will compete at the KDF/JCPS Robo Rumble in March and at the State STLP Championships in Lexington each Spring. If we have enough interest we will look at the RCX challenge which requires students to program their robot to do multiple funtions.
In Sphero stuents work as a team to write a story. After their story is written they must build a set that they must program the robot to go through to act out the story.
With VEX IQ students work in teams to build a robot to compete in a game. The game has two challenges, a driver conrtolled piece and and programmed piece. Students will compete in local competitions with the goal to advance to the State Tournament and the World Championship. The game for 2026-27 is Level Up.
With all programs students will work in teams and learn to program their robot.
Robotics meetings are held after school on Monday & Tuesday in the library until 3:30PM. VEX Robtoics will span from August through May (if a team advaces to the World Championship). Sphero spans from September to March and the LEGO season varies on the competition. The drone team meets once a week and will compete in the Aerial Drone Competitions.
