Course Descriptions:
Español 1: This course presents the basics of the Spanish language as spoken in Latin America and/or Spain. Students learn greetings, verb conjugations, basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical structures and get a glimpse of the culture of the Spanish-speaking world through the use of media, games, adapted readings and class discussions. Students develop a beginning reading and conversational ability, laying the foundation for further study of the language. The course emphasizes understanding and practical application rather than rote memory.
Español 2: This course continues the study of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, speaking, writing, listening and culture skills. Students will engage in detailed studies of various Spanish-speaking cultures through the use of media, games, adapted readings and class discussions. Furthermore, students will read poetry, a novel, present and write papers in Spanish. By the end of the year, students will have gained an in-depth understanding of several cultures and be able to express themselves using an array of vocabulary words and grammatical tenses.
