¡Bienvenidos a mi Página de Español!
Welcome to Señor Ries’ Spanish Web Page!
I am very excited to be your Spanish teacher this year! This will be my ninth year teaching and my fourth year at Hillsboro High School. At HHS, I am the leader of the World Culture Club. I have led two international student trips visiting Costa Rica, Spain, & France. Currently I have one trip scheduled for 2019 to Peru and future trips in the works, so stay tuned!
I attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish Language & Literature with a K-12 Education Certification. While there, I also received my grades 5-12 Mathematics Education Certification.
Prior to my senior year in college, I had the opportunity to spend the summer attending school and living with a family in Cusco, Peru. My program consisted of six hours of daily one-on-one intensive Spanish instruction and interaction for six weeks. Immediately following my studies in Peru, I ventured on to Costa Rica, where I continued my one-on-one education for another two weeks.
Some of the other countries I have been fortunate to visit are Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico (Spanish-speaking U.S.), Spain, France, and Italy.
Throughout my studies and travels, I have been able to experience a broad spectrum of cultures spanning North, Central, & South America, and Europe. I am always striving to find opportunities to share these experiences with my students!
Some of my favorite things are spending time with my family, traveling, running, hiking, playing baseball…just about any way I can spend time outdoors.
Looking forward to another great year at HHS! With your help, we will surely succeed!
