Syllabus
Course Description: This year students will be introduced to and learn algebraic ideas that will build on knowledge that they have gained in their previous math classes. They will learn to think critically and problem solve in real world applications.
Yearly Objectives for Math:
Review last year’s objectives, hitting integers and fractions a little bit.
Identify algebraic properties and apply them to real world situations.
Apply operations to positive and negative numbers, including decimals and fractions.
Recognize and generate equivalent forms of a number.
Add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions.
Analyze and describe patterns using words, rules, or notations.
Compare situations with constant and varying rates of change.
Compute unit rates.
Explore proportional relationships.
Describe the relationship between two images using transformations and scale factors.
Solve multi-step equations, starting with one or two step equations
Solve Multistep equations
Solve using the Pythagorean Theorem
Grading: Homework, in-class assignments, quizzes, and projects will comprise 20% of the student’s grade. Summative tests will make up the remaining 80%.
Attendance and Absences: Students are expected to be in class, on time, every day. If you know that you are going to be absent please check google classroom daily. It is your responsibility to get the work. For excused absences students have the number of days missed plus one extra day to complete the assignment. Missed tests and quizzes must be completed after school or during lab. All test retakes are taken on Friday’s after school. All work assigned that is not completed in class will need to be done for homework.
Supplies: (required)
Students will need:
(1) 3-ring binder
Tab dividers
Loose leaf notebook paper
Pencils
Calculator – a scientific calculator would be helpful but it should not have a graphing function
General Expectations and Information:
Students will be expected to be in class on time and prepared to get to work with completed work from the previous day.
Students will be expected to treat their classmates and teacher with respect at all times.
Students will be expected to fully participate in all classroom activities.

Retakes must be completed on your own time after school.
TEST RETAKES- if you are wanting to retake a test you must have done all your work for that chapter and taken all the quizzes. You must let me know that you are wanting to retake via email and I will coordinate with the teacher who does test retakes after schools on Fridays.
