Sam Nansel
About Me:
I graduated from Fontbonne University in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I was a member of the Men's Soccer team for three seasons. After graduating, and spending a short time in the business world, I realized my heart wasn't in it. I spent some time as a volunteer soccer coach at Hillsboro, and developed a passion for working with kids. I decided to go back to school at the University of Missouri-St. Louis to become a teacher. After completing my student teaching in China, I was granted a Secondary Social Studies (7-12) Certification in 2012.
I began teaching at Hillsboro in 2013. My first year was spent as a Paraprofessional at the high school in the Special Education Department. In 2014, I worked with At-Risk students at the Junior High. In 2015, I started the JAG Program for the Hillsboro School District. Since then, I have spent the past nine years building that program from the ground up, garnering both state and national awards along the way.
Outside of the classroom, I am the head varsity soccer coach for both the boys and girls programs. Prior to becoming the head coach in 2020, I served as the varsity assistant/goalkeeper coach for both the boys and girls programs for seven years. I love music , going to concerts, cooking/grilling, and spending time outdoors. I have a five year old daughter named Sage, a one year old son named Sonny, a dog named Ozzie, and two cats named Rita and Rico. I married my wife Laci in Asheville, North Carolina on July 6, 2021.
I strive to positively impact every student/player I interact with, and to leave a lasting positive impact on our community through education and coaching.
