We offer instructional classes which cover important employment skills such as:
Writing resumes and cover letters
Completing job applications
Interviewing practice
Budgeting, money-handling, and point-of-sale system operation
Navigating public transportation
Participants also learn about the importance of "soft skills" that cover:
Time management
Good attendance
Accepting feedback
Following directions
Appropriate communication with supervisors and coworkers
We have partnered with our local schools, community organizations, and businesses to offer volunteer training opportunities. Participants who have demonstrated work readiness are placed in controlled and monitored work experiences to allow them to put their skills to practice. These invaluable work experiences prepare young adults for the standards of the workplace, as well as provide individuals with real-world experiences they can reference during job interviews.
Here are some photos of the many activities students may engage in while participating in the Hillsboro Independent Transition Services Program. Team building, independence in the kitchen, work skills, volunteering, cultivating relationships, developing healthy habits and so much more!
