What is Xello?
Xello is an interactive, online college and career readiness software that 7th and 8th-grade students use to plan for their future. Pronounced "Zello," it provides age-appropriate activities and portfolios to guide students from kindergarten through high school.
Here is how the platform works:
Self-Discovery: Students take interactive quizzes (like Xello's "Matchmaker") to identify their personality, skills, and interests.
Career Exploration: Users browse thousands of careers, trade schools, and military options to see daily tasks, salary ranges, and education requirements.
College Planning: High schoolers can explore university profiles, research majors, find scholarships, and sync their Common App accounts to track college applications.
Course & Goal Setting: Students build personalized "Four-Year Plans" mapping out their high school courses and post-secondary goals.
For educators and parents, Xello serves as a centralized hub for tracking student progress, meeting state or district graduation requirements, and managing career counseling milestones.
Career and college pathways (CCPs) may seem far away, but it is never too early to take that first step and get on the right track. Hillsboro School District is committed to ensuring all students are college- and career-aware, eligible and prepared.
Becoming aware involves early exposure to colleges and careers, interest mapping, guidance lessons and the completion of national standardized tests. It also involves students and parents understanding the requirements for high school graduation as well as entrance requirements for technical or vocational schools, two-year community colleges, four-year public and private colleges, and even the military.
Becoming eligible involves students completing the necessary steps to proceed with their post-high school choice. This includes ensuring they meet entrance requirements, applying for their choice(s) within the deadlines, planning for paying college tuition and/or supporting themselves, and planning the steps needed to achieve their future goal.
Becoming prepared involves gaining the knowledge, skills and work ethic that lead to future success. Students will need a well-rounded education in a wide array of subjects, good study and work habits, and the skills to prepare them for independent living.

Ambassadors from Glencoe's CCPs will "Flydown" to Evergreen lunches throughout the year to represent their Pathways! High Schoolers will share fun facts, experiences, and hands on materials with the middle schoolers to help them understand what it's like to be a student in their CCP. Flydowns will be announced during Advisories, to keep your ears out! CCP Ambassadors will Flydown shortly after EMS students learn about that CCP through Advisory videos.
We are happy to provide you with some School to Career (STC) Events at Evergreen! These 1 hour events are sponsored by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and they will be held virtually in the Evergreen Library throughout the school year. STC Events spotlight local professionals from careers in anything from Marketing to Pediatric Nursing to Engineering to Tattooing to everything in between! Attending these events are a great way for students to get a better idea of the scope of career possibilities, and they'll learn from each professional what the road to that career could look like.
To attend an event, students must sign up using the google form that is published to the Counseling Google Classroom; forms will be released weekly based on available events. Students are only allowed to attend one event per week to minimize time out of class, so if there is more than one event offered each week, pick a favorite! On the day of the event, Counselors will send a pass to a student's class, excusing them for the event. Event attendance will be taken.
Students are responsible for making up classwork they miss while they are at an STC Event. There will also be a 60 student cap to each event, so make sure you sign up if you're interested!
