Our Belief and Values of PK-12 Comprehensive Health and Social and Emotional Wellness

We believe that every student can succeed in each of our schools and celebrate the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of our students as assets for knowing each student by name, strength and need. For that success to occur, we are committed to a whole child approach, understanding that social and emotional learning, academics and behavior work in partnership, not in silo. Our work is rooted in educational equity by recognizing and eliminating institutional barriers and creating access and opportunities that benefit each student. “Achieving equity” means students’ identities will not predict or predetermine their success in school. Educational equity is based on the principle that each student receives what is required for them to achieve success with regard to allocation of resources, opportunity, treatment, and access. (HSD Policy JBB). We believe that comprehensive health and social and emotional wellness is a tier 1 universal support that we strive to achieve by providing learning opportunities for each student PK-12 to practices self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making as core competencies. 420

We value that each student may need varying tiers of support, with a foundation of tier 1 universal supports, some needing tier 2 and tier 3 supports and strategies. Strong communication, collaboration from our families and community agencies are vital. In addition, we recognize that comprehensive health 69 and social and emotional wellness is maximized when our community works together and understands each others capacity and infrastructure.
