Week of September 14, 2020



Math:

This week we will finish with chapter 1. in which we will learn how to solve problems using addition/subtraction.

Fact Drill: This week's fact drill will be a review of addition facts 0-5. We will not have a pre-test on Monday, but will have the regular test on Friday. It is very important that your child continue to memorize their addition and subtraction facts up to 10 this year.

Reading:

This week we will continue with our first Unit.

The word skills that we will focus on this week will be reviewing inflectional endings -ing, -ed. In phonics, our focus will be on the short and long i word sounds.

A vocabulary worksheet will come home every Monday and will be due every Thursday. Please be sure to have your child study the vocabulary words for the story each week as they will be tested on these words every Friday. There will be a vocabulary worksheet this week!

Science:

This week we will continue to review plants and their parts, seeds, and differences in plant structures.

STEM: We simulated how erosion can occur slowly buy building mountains out of cornmeal and making a drip stick to simulate a rain storm.

English:

GRAMMAR:

This week we will review subjects and predicates.

We will continue to practice finding the subject part of the sentence by asking whom? or What? and the Predicate part of the sentence by asking what the subject is doing?

We will continue to focus on the four types of sentences. The 4 different types of sentences are: Statements(.), Commands (.), Questions (?), and Exclamatory (!)

REVIEW:

To find the noun in a sentence look for the word that is a person, place, thing or an idea.

To find the verb in a sentence look for the action word that tells what the person, place or thing is doing.

Did you know that once you find the noun in the sentence you can ask the noun 3 questions to find the adjectives. Which one? What kind? and How many?

Did you know that once you find the verb in the sentence you can ask the verb 3 questions to find the adverb. How? When? Where?

WRITING:

  • This past week we wrote a personal narrative paragraph about their New Year's Resolution.

  • Over the next week, we will write a narrative paragraph about a Snowy Day.


Religion:

This week we will focus on the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Social Studies:

This week we will continue with Unit 6 in which we will discover ways to save, spend or share money. We will review terms producer, consumer, goods, and services.
