Meet the Music Teachers 

Mr. Davis, High School Orchestra 

Adam Davis teaches the orchestras at Hudsonville High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois University - Urbana/Champaign and has been teaching for 27 years in Illinois and Michigan.  His primary instrument is bass. He is a master at all things tech and is the proud husband of his beautiful wife, Emily and father of Sophia (Sophomore) and Levi (7th Grade).  When he is not teaching, Adam spends his time trying to keep up with his kids’ activities or unsuccessfully swinging a golf club.

Sarah Lenhart, Riley MS and The 5/6 Building at Georgetown Orchestra

Sarah Lenhart, Middle School Orchestra Director at Hudsonville Public Schools in Michigan,was previously a beginning strings teacher in Greenwich, Connecticut and Naperville, Illinois. She also taught high school orchestra in Livonia, MI and Brewster, New York. 


A graduate of the University of Michigan and Western Connecticut University, she has presented numerous times at the National ASTA Conference and the Michigan Music Conference, was conductor of the Ann Arbor School of the Performing Arts Youth Orchestra, has guest conducted throughout Michigan, and has been the music director at the MASTA Strings Camp. Lenhart recently co-authored a book titled Sound Differentiation for Beginning String Orchestra published by Alfred Music. 


Mrs. Lenhart loves living in Hudsonville now near her extended family and her children attend HPS.  She thinks being an orchestra teacher is the best career in the world. She enjoys photography, gardening, and camping. 

Becky Bush, Baldwin MS and The 5/6 Building at Georgetown Orchestra 

Becky Bush, Middle School Orchestra Director and founder of the Hudsonville Public Schools Orchestra Program in Hudsonville, Michigan is co-author of Sound Differentiation for Beginning String Orchestra and author of a young orchestra piece, Arctic Crossing, both published by Alfred Music. She was Orchestra Director at Jenison Public Schools, String Acquisition Editor and Suzuki Strategist at Alfred Music Publishing, Adjunct Professor of Music Education at Grand Valley State University, and Adjunct Professor of Music Education at Calvin College and directed the St. Cecilia Music Center Sinfonia and Concert Youth Orchestras. A graduate with a Bachelor’s of Music Education from University of Michigan and a Masters of Education from Grand Valley State University, she has been Music Director at the Michigan ASTA String Camps and performs with the Signature String Quartet. She has presented multiple sessions at The Midwest Clinic, the National ASTA Conference, Ontario Music Educators’ Association Conference, Texas Music Educators Association Conference, New York State School Music Association Conference, other state music conventions and has been an active guest conductor throughout Michigan. Mrs. Bush lives in Hudsonville with her husband and four children who attend HPS. She loves working with middle school students, teaching orchestra, camping, hiking and Lake Michigan sunsets! 

Mr. Vanderwall, High School Band 

I went to Bauer Elementary and graduated from HHS in 1993! I have been married to my wife for 25 years, she is a teacher at Alward Elementary.  My main instrument is percussion.  I really enjoy movies, traveling, walking, music, and time with my family.


I love teaching band at Hudsonville because it is a program I have been a part of for so many years.  I think Hudsonville offers many great experiences for kids and so many opportunities to make great music.  I love being part of such a great team of students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

Mr. Zack Jacobs, Baldwin MS and The 5/6 Building at Georgetown Band

Mr. Jacobs, Middle School Band Director at HPS, is a HPS grad and former teacher for Grand Rapids Public School and Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools in Mt. Morris, MI. After graduating from GVSU, he married his best friend (also a music teacher) and now has five wonderful children. His main instrument is the trumpet and loves to still perform for churches and schools in the area. 

Mr. J loves to fish, swim, kayak and spend time with his family. He takes his dedication to students and lifelong learning seriously but seriously enjoys having fun in class! 

Mrs. Koella, Riley Street Middle School Band 

Mrs. Koella directs bands at Riley Street Middle School and co-teaches with Mr. Jacobs at Baldwin Street Middle School. In the fall she is also the Assistant Director of the Laker Marching Band at Grand Valley State University. She was previously an instrumental music teacher in Denver, Colorado teaching and designing curriculum for band, guitar, and rock band. She has also taught beginning, middle school, high school, and marching band in Cedar Springs and Grand Rapids where her groups achieved high scores at MSBOA District Festival and Solo and Ensemble. 


Mrs. Koella graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2017 with a degree in Music Education with Performance Honors on the clarinet. During that time she performed in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, recorded a CD under the direction of Col. Lowell Graham, and performed and collaborated with Early Music professors from Indiana University on the classical era clarinet. She continues to perform with the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band.


Outside of the band room Mrs. Koella loves hiking, kickboxing, and eating ice cream no matter what the weather is outside. Mrs. Koella lives in Grand Rapids with her husband Nate and their two cats Fred and Louise.

Mrs. Andre, High School Choir 

Deborah Andre earned both her Bachelor of Music Education and Masters in Secondary Education from Grand Valley State University. For the past twenty years, she has taught elementary and secondary vocal music in Hudsonville Public Schools.  In her year tenure as the Director of the High School Choral Program, Deborah’s choirs have attained much success at MSVMA District and State Choral Festivals and have enjoyed acclaimed performances at the Michigan Music Conference.  Her choirs have also performed in distinguished venues in Chicago, New York, and Florida. 


In 2007, Deborah had the pleasure of working with the All-State Choir at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Deborah has been a member of GVSU’s music faculty, directing the Festival Women’s Chorus in 2006 and 2007. Deborah serves as an adjudicator for MSVMA for Choral and Solo & Ensemble Festivals and is also a 2012, 2015, and 2018 nominee for MSVMA’s State Honors Choir Director.

Deborah served on the executive board for Michigan Music Educators Association for many years as a district representative and eventually as the chairperson for the state music conference.  She was also MMEA’s 2006 recipient of the Hilda Humphrey Service Award for “Outstanding Contributions to Music Education.”  


Deborah resides in Hudsonville with her husband Paul and their two children, Evan and Drew. She loves and values her community and is blessed to serve as a teacher in this phenomenal school district. 

Ms. Jenema, Riley Choir

Jessica Jenema is the director of the Riley Street Middle School Choir Program. In the Hudsonville Public Schools she also teaches drama and directs the middle school musical. Previously, she conducted the choirs at Lowell Middle and High school as well as Hopkins Middle and High school. She has conducted live concerts along with a virtual choir and  recorded video concerts. Jessica teaches in her private voice studio in Hudsonville. 


Jessica earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and minor in vocal performance from Central Michigan University. During this time she performed in three choirs, concert band, and a private voice studio. She has sung in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and toured with the CMU Chamber Choir. Jessica also performed in both a band and a choir in seven countries in Europe with the Michigan Ambassadors of Music. She worked for the School of Music as part of event staff where she helped to organize numerous concerts and productions. She is a member of Michigan Vocal Music Association and the American Choir Directors Association.


Jessica is a worship leader at her local church, and having just moved to Hudsonville, and likes to spend her free time going swing dancing, climbing ropes courses, and exploring coffee shops.

Mr. Hansen, Baldwin MS Choir

Geoffrey Hansen is a dedicated educator, musician, and team player, currently serving as the Middle School Choir teacher at Baldwin Street Middle School and the 5/6 building. In addition to this role, he also brings his expertise to team-teaching the 6th grade band. With a passion for music education, Geoffrey previously initiated and led the K-12 Band, Choir, and General Music Program at Covert Public Schools, where he made a lasting impact on the students and community.

Geoffrey's journey in music education began after graduating from Hudsonville High School in 2011, where he cultivated his passion for music and teaching. Continuing his educational journey, he pursued his studies at Western Michigan University, where he thrived in the Music Education Program and as a member of the award-winning Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Gold Company. His experiences at WMU provided invaluable insights and opportunities to further develop his skill as a musician and educator.


Beyond his role in education, Geoffrey is an accomplished musician who actively plays and records with various bands and organizations across the state. His commitment to both education and the professional music scene exemplifies his dedication to the musical arts and his desire to enrich the lives of others through music.


Returning to his roots in Hudsonville, Geoffrey is excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as an Eagle. His enthusiasm, expertise, and love for music make him a valuable asset to the educational community, and his students undoubtedly benefit from his passion for music and teaching.

Ms. Jillian Coleman, Creative Music


Jillian Coleman has been teaching music since 2012. Prior to working in Hudsonville Public Schools she worked as an elementary and middle school general teacher in Oakwood, IL for two years, before working for 7 years in Chicago Public Schools. In Chicago, she built a thriving Pre K-8th grade music program that included two music extracurricular performing groups for 3rd-8th graders. Jillian Coleman graduated from Michigan State University with undergraduate degrees in Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts from the Residential College of Arts and Humanities in 2012. There she participated in many operas and vocal performance opportunities. In her time in East Lansing she had the opportunity to become the Music Intern at St. John’s Student Parish where she conducted the choir and was a featured singer. She completed her Masters in Educational Administration and Leadership from the University of Illinois in 2016. In her free time she loves spending time with her twin children (3rd Coleman Baby on the way!), reading, singing in her family’s garage band, golfing, and coaching swimming for Hudsonville’s HEAT swim team.
