We had an AMAZING Early Release Friday today! It was POOL PARTY day! The room was decorated with pool things. The kids received leis and sunglasses. We did lots of fun activities like "Would You Rather", so kids could practice stating their opinion for writing. We read outside in the sunshine and played a math game with clocks as it was "TIME" for the party to begin! Kids were provided juice and fruit snacks for their poolside treat. See photos for fun pictures.
We had another SOARing Champion today. Congratulations OWEN!
This week......
PHONICS: This week we focused on the vowel team "oo". We learned that these two letters work together to make the long "oo" sound, like in "moon" and the short "oo" sound like in "book." We practicing blending and segmenting words, reading and writing words, and using "oo words in sentences.
READING: This week we have been focusing on leveling up in our reading skills now that we know how to take reading adventures. Kids have been reading book on RazKids and taking quizzes to show they understood what they read. The have also all read a book aloud to Mrs. LePard this week, so she knows how much they have grown as a reader.
WRITING... We have completed our first opinion story and taken it through all the steps of the writing process. The writing power has now been handed over to the kids and they are writing their own opinion stories and taking it through the writing process (pick an idea, plan it out, write it, revise it, edit it, color it).
MATH.... We started Unit 8. This week we have focused on measuring time in seconds, minutes, and hours. We can tell the hour hand from the minute hand on a clock. We know each small line is one minute, and each big number stands for 5 minutes. We can tell the time to o'clock and the hours. Kids are being exposed to 5-minute and 1-minute as well.
Social Studies - We wrapped up our unit on American Symbols. The kids did an AMAZING job remembering facts and they did well on the assessment.
