This Week's News!
January 16, 2026
This week was a busy week with assessments, guest teachers, popcorn Friday, and a Champion Run.
Congratulations to BROOKS! He is our POLITE SOARing Champion this month. He could actually win this honor every month. Great job Brooks!
What we learned this week....
Phonics: We practiced the digraph wh. This digraph was definitely harder for the kids to remember to use during writing. They did an AMAZING job with reading it and using the correct sound.
READING: We continue to work with nonfiction books. This week we worked on discussing the main ideas of nonfiction books, finding details that teach, and comparing/contrasting facts using a Venn Diagram.
WRITING... We are having fun writing our how-to stories. This week we focused on using checklists to make sure we included all of the steps in order with details, used capitals, correct punctuation, spelled words with correct sounds, and making sure our stories had everything a how-to story is supposed to have.
MATH.... We continue to work with number lines that count by 1's and 10's. We have been practicing starting at random numbers and then counting on with 10's and/or 1's. For example, we start at the number 17 and count by 10's (27, 37, 47, etc). Or we start at 12 and spin a spinner that tells us to add 1 or 10. We have been playing lots of games to help us learn this skill.
SEL - We work with the word INCLUDED this week and how it is important to feel included and how to make others feel that way too.
