Welcome to First Grade!
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. I will be using this google site to communicate with your family this school year, so please take a look around by using the tabs at the top of this page. Please know this site is a "work in progress" and will change as needed.
If you scroll down the page, you will find the newsletter for the week. Each newsletter will be saved in the "past posts" tab at the top in case you ever need to review them.

Hello First Grade Families,
The surprise and party day were a HUGE success! Thank you to all the parents who sent in supplies and volunteered to come in and help. It wouldn't have been as great without you, so THANK YOU! (see photos)
This weekend we will turn back time one hour....so Monday will be a PAJAMA DAY!
Curriculum
PHONICS...This week we worked on -n blends at the ends of words (-nt, -nd, -nk)
READING...Reassessing occurred to see how much your child has grown as a reader. Many kids have leveled up their reading skills and are moving on to the next skill concept in reading.
WRITING...We are having fun writing our small moment stories. Kids are adding more and more details with verbs that bring their stories to life and adjectives that describe people, places, and things.
MATH....We started Unit 3. Our focus is on building addition facts.
SEL - Our lessons are all about the word FOCUSED. We have defined the word, discussed what it looks like and sounds like in our classroom community. We will continue to work on this word next week as well.

MONDAY: LIBRARY DAY! Please send back library books.
Nov. 2 - Turn your clocks back one hour!
Nov. 3 - PJ DAY! Your child may wear slippers. Please send other shoes for the playground.
Nov. 3-7 - Book Fair Week...see the Alward Action
Nov. 5 - Skating Party 6:15-8:15pm
Nov. 17 and 19 - Parent Teacher Conferences...a sign-up will be coming soon!
Nov. 26-28 - Thanksgiving Break...no school.
