Math Competitions Information
A national program that provides students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers.
The mathleague.org program includes a number of services focused on enhancing the quality and quantity of competitive mathematical opportunities available to students everywhere. We offer a variety of programs for students in grades 3-12
The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a free, annual, international, online, team, mathematics competition designed for middle and high school students that has been held every year since 2003. Teams of from one to six students compete by submitting solutions to a list of mathematics problems. There is a ten-day window during which teams may compete choosing a start time most convenient for them. The problems range in difficulty from fairly easy to extremely challenging. In 2016 over 12,000 students competed on over 3200 teams from 59 countries.
The TMSCA provides four key events:
Number Sense - This is a 10 minute, 80-question mental math test covering all math courses.
Calculator Applications - Calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, roots, powers, exponential, logarithms, trigonometric functions, and inverse trig functions.
Mathematics - Tests knowledge and understanding in the areas of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, math analysis, analytic geometry, and pre-calculus (content is adjusted for middle school competitions)
Science - Tests a wide range of knowledge in earth science, life science, biology, chemistry, and physics,
