About Me

Prevention Social Worker

Hi! My name is Marisa Pearce, LMSW and I am F.D.R high school's Prevention Social Worker. In my past roles, I have worked at high schools as a general school social worker providing resource connection, counseling, groups, and workshops and I do that as a prevention social worker as well. I graduated from Columbia with my Masters of Science in Social Work with an emphasis in advanced clinical practice. I am trained in modalities such as D.B.T, C.B.T, Brief Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, and somatic experiencing.

I am passionate about equity and inclusion in schools. As a prevention social worker, I work with our health and P.E teachers to implement a holistic curriculum that considers and addresses students present needs around mental health, substance use,  and wellness. I also engage in individual and group counseling, and push into other classes as needed for additional mental health support. I come from a harm reduction frame work which addresses preventative strategies for our vulnerable population of teenagers. This means that I recognize students' agency to make their own decisions however I give them tools and psychoeducation to navigate situations and make healthy and smart choices for themselves.

My email address is marisapearce@hpcsd.org if you have any further questions or need assistance finding resources within school and community.
