MUSIC DEPARTMENT Haviland Middle School September 2022
Dear Band, Choral and Orchestral Parents and Students,
We are very happy to inform you that this year the Select Chorus, 81h grade Band, and Er grade Orchestra will be traveling to Jackson, NJ on Friday, June 2nd, 2023*, to participate in the Music in the Parks performance competition. Each group will perform three music selections and will be judged by two highly renowned music educators and performers. The adjudication comments will be instrumental for group improvement and encouragement.
The trip will include a full day (following the performance) at Six Flags Great Adventure, in Jackson, NJ. A competition awards ceremony will take place at Six Flags. Meals are NOT included (this actually saves us money).
TRIP COST/FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - $95
This cost will include: coach bus transportation, Festival fee, Six Flags admission, and a group T-shirt. Financial assistance is available! Please contact your child's teacher. All requests are kept confidential.
In order to help the students with this fee, we will be holding our annual Poinsettia Plant fundraiser. These are grown locally by Adams Fairacre Farms, employing local workers and come in a variety of colors. Profits will go to your child's account; they will not be divided among the students. Funds raised may also be used to pay the trip fee for the student's parent chaperone. Students may choose to do any, all, or no fundraising events, although we ask each student to try their best for each, if possible.
PARENT CHAPERONES
There are a limited number of spaces for chaperones to accompany us on the trip. They will be accepted on a first-come basis. Each chaperone will be responsible for between 2-6 students for the duration of the trip. Payment for selected chaperones will be made at a later date, and will be approximately $90. Please do not pay for chaperones now!
DUE DATE
Please bring all signed forms by this Friday, September 23rd. Also, in order for us to apply for the grant we get each year, which offsets a portion of the student fee, we will need our final head count by Tuesday, November 22nd. We will not be able to accept additional permission slips/initial deposit payments after this date.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
In order to meet our payment schedule commitments to the bus company and MITP,

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
This trip promises to be a wonderful musical, educational and fun experience for all attending. However, this is also a COMPETITION. Trophies will be awarded based on competitive placement against all other performing groups. Therefore, it is expected that each student will be well prepared for this competition. This includes excellent attendance in classes, lessons, and concerts. Students who do not meet this requirement will not be allowed to attend.
In order to attend, students must:
1) Have excellent lesson attendance and perfect concert attendance.
2) Be well prepared on lesson assignments and group music.
3) Be well behaved and trustworthy throughout the school year. We will need to be able to depend on the student to exhibit good judgment at the park.
4) Meet all deadlines — permission slips, forms, payments, etc.
We look forward to a productive and enjoyable year with our bands, culminating with this wonderful opportunity for musical growth, reward for work well done and fun!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Taylor Babbin
Ms. Catherine Lang
Mr. Ryan Wade
