On May 9th, 1754, Benjamin Franklin published one of the most famous cartoons in history: the Join or Die woodcut. Franklin’s art carried significant importance at the time and is considered an early masterpiece of political messaging. The message called for unity among the very separate English colonies in North America. His call for colonial unity fell on deaf ears.  One decade later, this cartoon would resurface and the individual English colonies would start to hear the message of Franklin's cartoon.
