I began teaching at Haviland Middle School in September of 2004. Throughout this time I have taught 6th grade math, science, reading (on the Vassar and Marist teams), AIS ELA, AVID and AIS Math (with all academic teams, both 6th and 7th grade). I currently teach 6th grade AIS Math (since 2016) and I absolutely love it because math has always been my favorite subject!
I am originally from Long Island and I moved to the beautiful Hudson Valley when I began college at SUNY New Paltz in 2000. I graduated from there with both my Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Elementary Education (with a concentration in Math, Science & Technology). I met my husband on the cross country and track & field teams in college, and we currently live in Ulster County with our three children, a dog and chickens. I love to spend time (especially outside) with my family. We enjoy playing in the yard, gardening, hiking local trails, and biking together. I am also an avid runner and cyclist, typically running or biking many miles each day. In 2022 I started competing in sprint triathlons, so sometimes I swim a lot too. I absolutely love being active and encouraging others to do so as well! I am a former head coach to Haviland’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams, as well as FDR’s Track & Field team (2008-2016), but I have put coaching on hold for the past several years while I have young children at home. Although I miss it greatly, I still love to follow the teams and love to see my former students join the Hawks and Presidents running families!
I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of my new students during the start of another new, fun and interesting school year. So, welcome to AIS Math Lab with Mrs. Holton! I truly hope you are as excited, prepared, and eager as I am to begin a school year like no other!
