Health Education Course Syllabus
Course Description: This class will meet for one semester, daily through google classroom and is a required course in New York State for graduation.
Course Goals: By the end of this class students will:
A. Understand and integrate concepts of physical, social, spiritual, environmental, and mental/emotional health.
B. Apply prevention and risk reduction concepts to health-related problems.
C. Understand and apply the following health related skills: decision making, goal setting, self and relationship management, stress management, accessing information, communication and advocacy.
Course Requirements and Policies
Attendance Policy: Lack of attendance logging into google classroom will have a negative impact on your grade.
It is the student’s responsibility to answer daily questions posted in the classroom.
Consistent absenteeism will negatively impact your grade
Cell Phone Policy:
Cell Phones are not to be used during google meets, points can be deducted from participation grade if used or used inappropriately.
Chromebook Policy:
Chromebooks should be charged every day or plugged in with a charger during google meets.
Student Responsibilities:
Be on time with your chromebook, pencil/pen, paper/notebook and assignments
Notes will be posted in google classroom and students are expected to take notes on all information presented in class and to save all or any handouts
Students are expected to complete homework and other projects on time to receive full credit.
Late assignments will receive partial credit, pending on how late and effort/completion of the assignment is. Assignments will receive 10 points off each day
Classroom Behavior:
A positive attitude, with respect for others, equipment, the school, and personal items, is essential.
Unacceptable behavior in the classroom will result in disciplinary measures in accordance with school policy. Students asked to leave the class or teacher will manually log them off.
Grading:
Will include: projects, quizzes, exams, class work, homework and a post assessment
Grading Scale: 30 % - Tests and Quizzes
30 % - Projects
30 % - In class assignments/homework/participation 10 % - Post Assessment
**Homework will be in class work that has not been completed
