“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Be present and be on time – Showing up is half the battle. If you’re not 15 minutes early, you’re late.
Be prepared to play – Players need the proper equipment to play. (stick, goggles, mouth guards, uniforms etc.)
Be a good Teammate – Attitude. Players need to do their best to get along with their teammates. Leave personal issues off the field. Participate in team functions whenever possible. Be happy. Be pleasant. Be coachable.
Communicate – Players need to communicate with their coaches and teammates early and often. Get ahead of any problems that may develop.
Word Hard – Players need to work hard on the field and in the classroom. They need to take themselves, their sport, and their team seriously.
Trust – Players must trust their coaches and teammates.
Love the Game – Between the lines the fun is in the game. Save the silly stuff for after practice.
Succeed – Reward all of your hard work with team success in games.
Some Quick Points

This is the perfect opportunity to try a new sport, or get re-engaged with girls lacrosse
Skills from other sports translate beautifully to lacrosse - soccer, track, basketball, softball, etc. - Rely on your pre-existing skill sets to develop as a lacrosse player
If you are a new player, you will need a stick, a pair of goggles, and a mouth guard
The school has a few sticks and goggles that can be loaned out
Open Gyms are coming - Thursdays - for FDR and Spackenkill players
We will be on the turf whenever possible - in a gym when it is cold or poor weather
Open Gyms are open to girls in grades 7-12
Open Gyms will happen on Thursdays when schools are open
There are four major parts of lacrosse to focus on:
Offense
Defense
Transition
Special Teams (man-up, man-down)
We will start with basic skills at open gyms and move forward together
Drills, concepts, and games will get more complicated as our skills progress
Fitness is part of lacrosse - we need to be able to run
There will be fitness and footwork drills at Open Gyms
Lean on the examples set by our returning players
Tryouts
Any girls in grade 7-12 from Hyde Park and Spackenkill School Districts are eligible to tryout
Players must meet FDR Eligibility, have a current physical and sign up on Family ID under FDR Girls Lacrosse.
