Introducing Mrs. Hall

I have been teaching for many years. I have taught all aspects of Home Economics to grades 6-12.

I have been teaching at Haviland Middle School for the past 25 years.

My certifications include:

  • N-6 Elementary

  • K-12 Home Economics (BS)

  • Masters of Education( Early Childhood)

  • I am the Digital Media Coordinator (DMC) for Haviland Middle School. (I maintain the website for HMS.)

I am married and have 4 children, plus 3 grandchildren.

I have about a dozen hens who lay eggs of a variety of colors, dark brown, brown and shades of blue-green. I have a few bunnies and some pigeons of a variety of colors too.

I love to garden! I have a huge vegetable garden with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, peas, lettuce, raspberries, peaches and much more. Everything is grown without any chemicals or pesticides. I freeze the surplus to use all winter long.

I have a jungle of flowers in my yard too. My gardens feed the hummingbirds and butterflies. During the winter I continue to feed the birds at my feeders. I have a lifetime list of all the birds I have identified.

During my free time I enjoy bike riding. This summer I have been riding 15-25 miles 3-4 times a week. I frequently ride on the Dutchess County Rail trail. I also enjoy kayaking on the local lakes and ponds.

I love to cook! I try to make healthy organic meals for my family. I use foods I have raised or other local foods as much as possible. I have taught my children to cook well. One of daughters went to culinary school and taught me some new skills!! (Lifetime Learning)

During the winter I often sew. This past year I learned to sew with leather. I made a beautiful handbag as well as a leather shirt. I taught my retired husband to sew leather too.(Lifetime Learning)

My personal motto is ;"Leave it better than you found it!" We can leave a place cleaner or improve on it. We can leave people better by being kind and helpful. I try to teach my students to do this in class as well as in their lives.

I am a lifelong learner and hope to help my students to love learning and find things to be passionate about.
