This is a half year course you need to pass in order to get a High School Diploma in New York State. This version of Government allows you to earn Suny DCC credits as it qualifies as credit New Your State. The aim of the course it to teach about the fundamentals behind the democratic principles we have as citizens of the United States of America. It is also a way to help students learn what it means to be an active citizen. We will look at the many parts of local, state and Federal government. This course will touch upon some current debatable issues such as: How effective is the US Constitution to today's society, immigration, Federalism and freedom of speech. We will also look into public awareness and public policy. How can you change the world around you for the better.
Whether your intent is to continue your education or go into the work force next year, this course will help you to gain a better perspective to the world around you. I also intend on helping you to understand the rights that are granted to you in our constitution of the United States.
This course is designed so that as the semester goes along, we will be engaging in group discussions, projects, current events, homework, quizzes and tests. At the send of the semester you will be expected to complete a final exam.
I hope you are looking forward to the semester ahead of us, as I am. I realize you are seniors and are looking forward to graduation, but we need to get you to pass this course. Hopefully we can do so in an engaging and productive way.
