Syenna Araki is an artist born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai’i. She hopes to spread positivity and self-love through her art and her ultimate goal is to create something that evokes change in her community. Syenna grew up with many pets and has always loved animals ranging from cute baby chickens to fluffy cats. As a teenager in the 21st century, Syenna has noticed many of her peers, and herself as well, fall victim to the negative expectations that society has set on youth and she hopes to combat these pressures with her art. Syenna has attended Hawaii Preparatory Academy since 8th grade and has taken many art classes varying from painting to mixed media to even ceramics. She hopes to use these skills in her capstone and to carry it on through college where she plans on attending school on the east coast.
Positivity Pins is a series of button pins I designed myself that showcase cute animals that represent an aspect of optimistic thoughts or feelings to spread positivity throughout my community. These pins include the “Self Love Cow” which is portrayed holding heart balloons and the “Fearless Frog” proudly wearing a confident face, prepared to conquer any obstacle that comes their way. There is currently a significant decline in teen mental heath due to academic and social expectations placed on the youth at very early ages. My goal is to combat these negative feelings and what better way to do that than using adorable and loveable farm animals with positive messages. Button pins are a perfect way for people to express themselves in a simple and fun manner that also livens up one's bag or outfit.
