Behavior, Grading, & Homework Policies

Behavior Policy

Behavior Consequences

  1. Students will first be given a verbal or nonverbal warning to work to correct the inappropriate behavior.

  2. If the behavior is not corrected through verbal and/or nonverbal warnings and becomes more severe, the student may be removed from an activity, be sent to the principal's office, or be assigned a morning detention. For any student being sent to the principal's office, or being assigned a morning detention, the teacher will email or call the family of the student to inform them.

  3. Students who are insubordinate or severely violate the HIS Code of Conduct may be sent directly to the office without classroom progression of discipline.

Positive Reinforcement

  1. Students have the opportunity to earn classroom tickets for positive behavior choices. Examples of this could be consistently being on time to class, consistently completing all homework assignments, being a good helper to others in the classroom, and going above and beyond general classroom expectations.

  2. Earning classroom tickets can lead students to earning additional classroom rewards and privileges as well!

Grading Policy

  1. All students will follow the Grading Scale adopted in the HIS Handbook. The Grading Scale is as follows:

100 - 90 A 89 - 80 B 79 - 70 C 69 - 60 D 60 and below F

  1. Grades will be updated weekly in ProgressBook.

Homework Policy

All homework should be completed DAILY (or as given by the teacher). Late or incomplete homework will result in the following consequences:

  1. For the first missing homework assignment of each new quarter, students will be given a verbal reminder on the importance of completing homework. For the second missing homework assignment of each new quarter, the student's family will be contacted in order to work together to find a solution.

  2. Beyond these two reminders, missing homework assignments will receive a zero. Students will NOT be permitted to call home if they forgot their homework.

  3. Homework completion is part of the quarter grade for students. Students who consistently complete homework receive a positive result in their quarterly grade. Consequently, students who do not consistently complete homework receive a negative result in their quarterly grade.
