5th Grade Camp: Was a fun time with our classmates learning new things. This is what we did:

  • High Ropes course: A 25 feet obstacle course in the trees! Students did a great job challenging themselves and cheering each other on.
  • Orienteering: Learning how to use a compass and complete an orienteering course.
  • Shelter building: Huge branches were used to create a temporary shelter in the woods. Students had to work in groups to construct a sturdy shelter which everyone in their group could fit into. Kind of like a really big STEM activity.
  • Drumming: Students used homemade drums as the Native Americans did for a way to communicate and celebrate. Rhythms were repeated and created by students. Great sound came from all, it was really fun.
  • Wild Wonders: In between our busy day of programs we were able to sneak a peak of some of the native animals that call the Howell Nature Center home.
  • Archery: Just like the camps of old, we were able to learn about archery and shoot a few arrows into straw targets. It was harder then it looked, but fun.
  • Lots of walking, really hiking back and forth between programs. We sure got a lot of exercise in!
