HMS PARENTS:
Under Texas Education Code, Section 28.004 and 38.0831 on abuse topics, beginning the 2022-2023 school year, personal safety lessons are offered as part of the comprehensive school counseling program to educate students on preventing child abuse, family violence and dating violence as recommended by the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) adopted by Board Policy.
In Howe ISD, we partner with Grayson County Children’s Advocacy Center to present the Play It Safe curriculum. The focus is to provide information on warning signs of abuse, strategies to remain safe and have healthy relationships and how to seek help in developmentally appropriate ways.
Topics will be presented in classroom guidance lessons and will not begin until at least 14 school days of this notice. Opt in forms will be sent home with your student. Please indicate your wishes for your child to participate or not participate in these lessons. If we do not receive this form signed by the parent, your child will not be allowed to attend these critical personal safety presentations.
