Mastery-Based Semi-Synchronous Online Class
This is a fully online class, but it is a bit synchronous because your assignments have due dates and close within 2 weeks. There are no required scheduled meetings face to face or through zoom. Instead, you will need to pay very close attention to the Modules each week.
This is a "Mastery-Based" class.
you will need to master each assignment (so the assignment is either complete or incomplete)
you will be given feedback on your work
you will have the opportunity to revise your work and resubmit it within two weeks of when the module is opened.
Before handing in work
look at the rubric or the instructions within the assignment
the feedback will be given based on the rubric or the instructions
All assignments will be graded based on the 4 Standards of Mastery identified in the rubric
Class Expectation:
Follow the recommended class schedule
Turn in your assignments by the due date
If the assignment or any part of the assignment is not mastered, you may REVISE it until it is mastered (or until the module closes)
If you have not mastered a particular area in the rubric - it will be identified so you know where you need to focus your work
score of complete == Mastered - (You are good to go!)
score of incomplete = not mastered - (Look at the rubric to see what area needs to be revised!
If you do not understand something,
reach out before the due date to meet with me or our lab instructor to get help
Communicate! Communicate! I do not know what is holding you back from succeeding unless you talk with me!

ONLINE
This is a SEMI-ASYNCHRONOUS class, which means you will have assignments with due dates, but there will not be required meetings. The online format of this course is NOT self-paced. We will work together on a weekly schedule of required readings, written responses, and drafts. Instructions, due dates, and feedback for all major assignments will exist in Canvas. The workload, course content, and writing assignments are equal to those in a regular classroom section of English 095. The course material is sequential and organized through Canvas Modules.
Your participation in weekly online discussions will be important as well as any online collaborative group work.
Expect to be present on Canvas for a minimum of 6 hours each week. In addition, plan for a minimum of 8-12 hours each week working independently on assignments and activities for this course.
Submission Policy:
Work will not be accepted through email.
All assignments and discussions can be redone but close TWO weeks from the time that they are opened. A new module will be opened each week. There will be due dates for assignments, but this is only to keep you on track. The module will not close until two weeks after it has been opened.
Contact your instructors: if there is a valid reason why you can not submit or resubmit within the two (2) week time limit.
Essays and Reflections must be submitted on the day that they are due. Your submission of any essay must have at least 5 paragraphs (5-10 sentences each) to be considered for feedback. Once you have submitted an essay, you may revise it at any point in the semester, until December 2, 2022. Submission of Reflections are final. Therefore, you will need to use the proofreading and revising skills you have learned in the class BEFORE submitting your Reflection.
Essay Drafts and Reflection Due Dates:
Essay #1- Week 4
Essay #2- Week 7
Reflection # 1- Week 8
Essay # 3- Week 13
Reflection #2- Week 14
