Social Services
Students receive weekly SEL lessons through their Advocacy class. We utilize several curricula via the HISD HUB Digital Resources. Students are also invited to participate in monthly SEL activities.
The Urban Scholars program aims to support youth of color in increasing academic achievement, graduating from high school and transitioning to college. Urban Scholars participants receive the tools and resources to build knowledge of self for personal transformation, develop critical consciousness and achieve academic success.
Empowers Girls Aged 10-18 to discover themselves and work towards transformation. Provides tools to enhance self- esteem, connections with others, healthy living (body, mind, and spirit), and planning for the future
Teen And Police Service Academy’s (TAPS Academy) mission is to reduce the social distance between at-risk youth and law enforcement. This is accomplished through learning, interaction, and discussion between at-risk youth and the law enforcement personnel who serve their communities. Through this program, the two groups gain valuable insight about each other and the issues they face on a daily basis.
The Sam Houston Alternative Center (SHAC) is the Sam Houston on-site alternative placement center. Students receive additional academic and social services support during their assignment to SHAC.
