COLLEGE TESTING - TSIA2 INFORMATION
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) is a series of placement tests for students enrolling in public colleges and universities in Texas. The tests help Texas schools determine whether you’re ready for college-level courses in the areas of reading, writing, and math. The TSIA2 will consist of two multiple-choice sections: Mathematics and English Language Arts Reading (ELAR), an integrated reading and writing section. The TSIA2 will also include a WritePlacer Essay section.
The TSI test is an untimed computer-adaptive test with multiple-choice questions. Upon completion of the test, the student will receive a score and information about their skill level immediately.
The difficulty of the TSI math test questions depends on the test taker. Because the TSI is a computer-adaptive test, the next question will be more difficult if the test taker answers the question correctly. However, the more difficult questions are answered, the higher the possible score will be.
Our campus goal is for all students to have passed the TSIA2 English and writiting component by the end of their 9th grade year. Our campus goal is also for all students to have passed the TSIA2 Math component by the end of their 10th grade year. This will help to ensure that our students have met their college readiness standard.
Collegiate Readiness begins with students passing the TSIA2 test or qualify with their 0-14 college qualifying courses. If students continue to pass their scheduled college courses with a C or higher and maintain a 2.5 college cumulative average, then they will be able to continue to take college courses even if they have not passed the TSIA2 test. Students will still need to continue to study and take the TSIA2 test until passing.
After 14 college hours are attempted, if the standard of 2.5 cumulative average is unable to be maintained and there are courses that are below the C standard, then the student must pass the TSIA2 test to be eligible for more college courses and complete intervention courses.
Mathematics: A College Readiness Classification (CRC) score of at least 950; or a CRC score below 950 and a Diagnostic level of 6.
English Language Arts Reading: A College Readiness Classification (CRC) score equal to or greater than 945 and an essay score of at least 5.
There are several support sites that students can visit to practice the skills that will be tested on the TSIA2. Students must study diligently to be able to adequately prepare for the exam.
During the school day students will be afforded study time during homeroom but students must take advantage of study time outside of school hours to work on areas that continue to need improvement. Please see study resource below and at the bottom of the webpage.

The math part of this test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. In this section, students are tested on four main topics:
Elementary Algebra & Functions
Intermediate Algebra & Functions
Geometry & Measurement
Data Analysis, Statistics, & Probability
Algebra and Functions
In the algebra section, test takers’ knowledge is tested at both the Elementary and intermediate levels to determine how well students can solve various algebraic equations. In the Elementary algebraic expressions and functions section, test takers are asked to solve simple equations and combine or simplify algebraic expressions. For Intermediate algebra and functions, test takers should also know what a quadratic equation is and how it can be solved. In this section, it is also important to know how to simplify the square roots and how to use the quadratic formula to solve problems. There are also questions about rational and exponential expressions, functions, and radicals in the Intermediate algebra and functions section.
Geometry and Measurement
The geometry & Measurement section measures test takers’ understanding of the geometric area, symmetry, and 3D shapes. In this section, test takers must prepare to answer questions such as missing measurements of rectangles, triangles, and circles. The questions of this section also measure the knowledge of the test takers about solid figures and 3D figures and geometric modeling for computer applications.
In the Data Analysis, Statistics, & Probability section students’ ability is tested to work with data sets, probabilities, and statistics. How to interpret table and chart information is very important in this part. This section also includes questions about the mean, median, and other topics related to statistics and probabilities.
Not. Test takers are not allowed to bring calculators and other unnecessary devices. In addition, there is a pop-up calculator on the screen for some questions.
