Leadership Application open: January 12th- February 21st
After reading the information found within this very helpful and informative website, please feel free to email kody.marshall@houstonisd.org if you have any further questions.
More detailed information on each step/ tentative time frame for each step:
STEP 1: Application closes February 21st.
Mr. Marshall goes through and grades each application based on the rubric provided in the Google Form. ETA: I would like to have this completed over Spring Break.
STEP 2:
The 7th grade administrator team provides feedback on applicants. ETA: It is my hope that this is complete by February 27th (Will not be sending an email for this step of the process)
STEP 3:
I will send out a teacher recommendation to all of the applicants' teachers to provide feedback. (Applicants do not need to ask their teachers) ETA: I expect this portion to be complete by February 27th. (Will not be sending an email for this step of the process)
STEP 4:
All Applicants can expect an email at this juncture to know if they will be moving forward to the interview portion of the application. Face to face interviews will act as a “call back” for students who have a great administrator’s check, great teacher recommendations, and a great application. An invitation to the face to face interviews will be sent out mid March, Interviews should take place at Lanier in late March or early April. Face to face interviews will take place with a panel of interviewers. It will also include multiple stations to display active Leadership potential.
STEP 5:
I will send out a confirmation email letting all applicants know where they stand at this point. If applicants are chosen to move forward at this point, this is considered an invitation into the Leadership program. Applicants who are moving forward will have a Google Form attached to their email confirming that they want to continue with the process. ETA: This should take place in late April.
STEP 6:
Applicants who are moving forward will receive directions for their PUPS lesson tryouts. The PUPS lesson they will be leading will be pre-created for them. The tryouts portion of the process is to ensure that potential future Leaders get an opportunity to feel what it is like to be a Lanier Leader. This is so that potential future Leaders have a more informed perspective when deciding to make this big decision. ETA: I want to give students the remainder of the school week to confirm that they are moving forward, thus the PUPS lesson/ date/ location will be sent out approximately a week after the confirmation email. I am thinking late April to early May.
STEP 7:
PUPS Tryouts: This step applicants will lead their own PUPS class in a pre- created PUPS lesson. I want to give applicants a week with the lesson to prepare. ETA: The tryouts will take place in early to mid May, the exact date is tentative due to testing, 8th grade IB projects and any additional items that might take place of PUPS.
STEP 8:
I will send out emails to all applicants letting them know the result of the application process and providing next steps. Directly after step 7
Applicants moving forward “Future Leaders” will be sent details for a face to face Future Leader and Future Leaders Parent or Guardian information meeting, Leadership contract details, and Leadership dues details (due before the end of the school year).
