Lamar Writing Lab's October College Application Essay program comprises two separate afterschool events.
Students may register to attend one or both sessions by submitting the form at tinyurl.com/college-app-essay.
Part 1 provides a comprehensive understanding of the format, audience, and purpose of the college essay; successful and unsuccessful example essays; moldable recommended essay structure based on successful essay; brainstorming activities and drafting exercises; strategies, techniques, and researched insights for main and supplemental/short-answer application essays.
Part 2 allows students to select from a variety of guided workshop groups tailored to different stages of the college essay writing process. Each will be led by a Writing Lab staff member who is also an experienced university-level instructor. These workshop facilitators will begin with a group activity reading sample essays like admissions committees before facilitating a structured workshop while listening to student concerns and offering feedback, tips and tactics, and resources.
