The Sentence

Pulitzer Prize winner Louise Erdrich is a Native American bookstore owner in Minnesota. Her main character, Tookie, is a Native American living in Minnesota who works at a bookstore. This story is a beautifully written profile of Tookie and those around her as the pandemic breaks out, Black Lives Matter protests are sparked after the killing of George Floyd, and as a ghost occupies the bookstore. Publisher's Weekly: “Scintillating…More than a gripping ghost story, THE SENTENCE offers profound insights into the effects of the global pandemic and the collateral damage of systemic racism. It adds up to one of Erdrich’s most…illuminating works to date.”

Trigger Warning: This book deals with personal emotional responses to the major events of our time. There is discussion of drug use and mild sexual content.
