Hello! I am Ms. Lopez. I am the 8th grade US History teacher for cluster 8L. This is my third year at Lanier and I'm excited to be a part of this team! I previously taught Reading in Pasadena for four years. I look forward to working with you to ensure you and your students get the best. I am a Houston native. I attended the University of Houston, where I studied History and Journalism. In my free time, I enjoy reading books, going on road trips, and watching movies!
Class Overview
The purpose of this course is to provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of the role(s) that selected individuals performed in contributing to the development of the United States from the Age of Exploration to the Reconstruction Era. Students will be exploring U.S. history through both primary and secondary documents, short historical videos, maps, websites from various museums across the country, timelines, and their own projects.Â
This course will focus on, and emphasize, skills such as vocabulary, reading critically, formal essay writing, analyzing visuals using OPTICS, and communication within a group. These important skills will assist the student with preparation for high school and beyond becoming civic participants, life-long learners, and risk-takers.
