Set up your Common Application account. Remember, you'll have to keep this login information so you can log in to Common App through Naviance later.
Click the tab that says "Common App." Complete the information to the best of your ability. You must have something in the "Writing" section of the Common App even if you're not planning to include the essay in the applications you submit to the schools that don't require an essay.
Click the tab "My Colleges." Search and add the colleges you'd like to apply for. You can add or remove colleges from this section at any time.
Complete the FERPA waiver from within your Common App account. In order to do this, click the tab that says "My Colleges." Then click one of the colleges you've decided to apply to (or add a college here, if you haven't yet). Then click the tab that says "Recommenders and FERPA," and then complete the form. You will want to waive your rights to see the recommendations that your teachers submit for you; this also allows me to send documents on your behalf. This step must be completed before I can send transcripts.
When you're ready to submit your Common App, you'll "Review and Submit" under the "My Colleges" tab.
Common App Pros:
One application can be sent to multiple schools (rather than typing the same information many times).
Some schools require applications be submitted through the Common App.
Common App Cons:
Sometimes the institutional applications are shorter and require less (no essay!).
The Common App sends all documents at once, so it may take a little longer on my end to compile all the documents before I send out your transcripts.
