Social Emotional Learning is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), these skills include how to "understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions."
SOS is a nationally recognized suicide prevention program offered by The Center for Suicide Prevention and Research (CSPR) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital that:
• Decreases suicide attempts by students
• Increases the ability of participants to identify signs and symptoms of depression and to respond in a way that keeps students safe
• Encourages students to seek help for themselves or a friend
