Living by our Christian Values: Together in Faith, Hope and Love

22nd October: Newsletter 7

Harvest

It was lovely seeing all the children together again at our Harvest Service and to have the families of Year 6 children join us as our audience. It was the first whole school event that Class 1 have experienced together and they all rose to the occasion.

Class 3 shared an amusing sketch to make us think about what we have in our lives whilst others are in need. Class 2 reflected on how we can appreciate our world and care for it more whilst Class 1 learned Makaton to accompany one of our songs.

We are so proud of all the children for the way they sang, read and conducted themselves throughout the service. Well done everyone.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Harvest collection for the food bank and The Giving Box. I'm sure the food and clothing will be very much appreciated by the families who receive them.

Class News

Foundation Stage

Our final week of our fairytale theme was all about 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children were looking forward to him meeting him at the start of the week, however he proved too fast again and had managed to escape from the story box! Amelia, Billy and Max made some fantastic missing posters, drawing a realistic pictures to help find him. Nursery also used their creative skills to make their own gingerbread man, learning how to use paintbrushes and glue sticks with increasing control.

Reception loved their maths session on Thursday, weighing and comparing the weights of ingredients to make their own gingerbread man. Annie said "The green bowl of flour is lighter and the yellow bowl of flour is heavier." Annabel W added "That means that they're not balanced."

Class 1

Class 1 enjoyed their first whole school performance this week. We enjoyed learning the songs and creating Harvest headbands using vegetable prints and leaves. We are looking forward to further practising our performance skills for our Christmas production.

Last week in Forest School, we made Sporg some alien friends out of wood. Year 1 thought carefully about what they wanted their alien to look like, finding a shape they liked and thinking about how many arms/legs it would have. Mrs Stearne then helped them drill holes to fit these limbs into.

We have been trying hard this term to follow our class promises, remembering to line up quietly and quickly and listen carefully to the adults in our class. As a reward we chose to have a Pyjama Day whilst we enjoyed completing our alien work then relaxed this afternoon with hot chocolate and a film. What a great way to end this first half term!

Year 2 designed their alien by drawing it first then finding parts to match their design. They joined the parts together using hook and eyes to create moveable limbs. We carefully painted the aliens and gave them a name. I'm sure you'll agree they are all unique with very different personalities!

Class 2

All the children enjoyed decorating and finishing off their woodland models after making them in forest school over the past few weeks. They have painted them to match the illustrations in our class book 'Into the Forest' and they all look great! Well done everyone.

The children in Class 2 have also spent lots of time this week becoming scientific investigators. They have been thinking about the different ways animals and plants can be grouped and learned about what 'classification' is. They have begun to create their own classification keys which helped then to group and sort a variety of animals. We all then went outside with the bug catchers to see what wildlife and minibeasts we could find. The children all had fun exploring the school grounds for tiny animals to investigate and sort.

Class 3

To end their half term focus on Ancient Egypt, Class 3 have been learning more about the science behind preservation and have had a go at mummifying oranges! Using salt, bicarb and bandages, they carefully wrapped thier 'mummies' and are looking forward o seeing how well they stay preserved over the holiday.

The children have also been using the knowledge they have gained from different sources over the last 7 weeks; summarising and presenting this on their own web sites
