Living by our Christian Values: Together in Faith, Hope and Love

8th October: Newsletter 5

Harvest

At Harvest, we encourage the children to appreciate the things they are fortunate to have in their lives and to be thankful for these. We also talk about working together so we can all make a difference to the lives of others.

This year we are asking for donations which will support a number of local charities:

  1. The local foodbank who would appreciate any donations of dried and tinned foods, and toiletries

  2. The Community Giving Box based in Trinity Walk welcome any donations of children's winter clothing, shoes or toys in good condition. These can then be distributed directly to local families through charities such as Stepping Stones Baby Bank and The Clothing Bank

Over the next 2 weeks, we will have boxes by the gates each morning and evening for any donations you are able to make towards our collection.

We are holding a Harvest Service on Wednesday 20th October. All Key Stage 1 and 2 children are involved. as we can now meet together again in school. Unfortunately, we are not able to have all families attending events again yet.

We would like to invite Year 6 families to attend the service as it will be the last Harvest their children have at primary school. (details to follow)

We will be recording the service to share with all families.

Holiday Club

We are hoping to run October holiday club if there is sufficient demand. To reserve a place, if we are able to offer this service, please complete the online form here

Class News

Foundation Stage

This week we enjoyed sharing the book 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes'. In the story, Mr Wolf's friends were feeling very mean and wouldn't help him with all of the jobs he needed to do in order to make his pancakes. As our Nursery and Reception children are all so kind, they decided that they would help Mr Wolf. Reception started by writing Mr Wolf a shopping list and then they used their shopping lists to buy the ingredients from our shop outside. Nursery then practiced their knife skills to spread butter and jam on pancakes and then tried hard to cut them into small pieces. The best part by far was when they got to eat them at snack time!

Don't forget that next Monday 11th October we are dressing up as out favourite nursery rhyme character. We can't wait to see all of your wonderful homemade creations!

Class 1

This week we have enjoyed learning and investigating more about the human body. We drew around each other and labelled body parts, used dough to create the internal systems of the body and made collage Body Maps. We also found out about mammals using books and the internet. In our groups, we sorted pictures of mammals, birds and fish. A key focus this week has been learning about the senses. We used our senses to explore a range of items. Sporg also got in touch with another letter so we wrote back to him telling him all about ourselves and what humans are like.

On Thursday, we went on an Autumn walk to collect some beautiful Autumn leaves. We compared sizes, colours and shapes.

Class 2

The children in class 2 have been exploring the work of Georgia O'Keefe. They have researched her art and thought about the style of her art work. They have experimented with colour in order to recreate one of her masterpieces. All the children worked really hard to get the form and colours just right. We are all so impressed with what they have created.

Class 3

After, discovering an Ancient Egyptian Tomb last week, the archeologists is Class 3 have been tasked with removing its precious contents. The problem? It's not safe inside! They immediately set out to build antiquity extractors, using their knowledge of levers from science to create litter-picker style devices that could be used in the most decrepit of tombs!
